ORION OUTDOOR SOFA
Giampiero Tagliaferri
The Minotti Orion Outdoor seating system, designed by Giampiero Tagliaferri, is made to enjoy open-air spaces with compositional freedom. Layered volumes and gently inclined linear surfaces give it an elegant, contemporary presence in the landscape.
It echoes the patterns of constellations, where distinct elements are arranged along straight and angled axes. Orion Outdoor is built from a rich repertoire of polygonal modules, rectangular, square and trapezoidal, so configurations can be composed and recomposed to suit both domestic settings and open-air hospitality spaces.
The design balances geometric rigour with a perceptual softness. The low, generous seating creates a direct connection with its surroundings, while the interplay of surfaces gives the layout a light, dynamic rhythm.
Its identity comes through in the large seat cushions, marked by converging stitching that strengthens their graphic presence. The backrest, simply placed, supports the horizontal reading of the layout and is finished with tone-on-tone double stitching in an envelope design.
The composition draws on John Lautner’s architectural research, where elements relate as independent yet connected structures. Steel feet, also available in a painted finish, lift the volumes off the ground for a sense of lightness and suspension.
The family is completed by freestanding travertine coffee tables in different tones, which can sit between the seats or in front of the sofa as material accents.
